Fall has finally arrived in Appalachia, y’all! It’s still warm out there during the day, but the mornings are cool, the evening breeze is sweet, and I just feel it in my bones, ya know? This past summer was quite the whirlwind. I feel like between my day job and family obligations I just kept going and going and going. I am so very ready for chillier days ahead and look forward to snuggling up with my fiber crafts over the course of the next couple seasons.
Having said all that, I wanted to whip up a pattern that expresses my love of all things autumnal. I am so very excited to announce the Bramble Witch hat pattern. The inspiration behind this hat once again goes back to my childhood, and the fairy stories I heard growing up. I still can’t pass any kind of mushroom without thinking how busy the fairies have been lately, so I just had to incorporate that into this magical hat. Mushrooms, antlers, berries, brambles, and a wee bit of magic. It doesn’t get much more Down Home than that for me! I am so, SO excited to wear this out to the Renaissance Faire this fall. I’m hoping to knock out a few more accessories for that look, so stay tuned for that in the upcoming weeks.
Bramble Witch is worked in super bulky yarn for the main hat and a variety of different yarns for the optional accessories. It’s a fantastic stash buster, too! There are endless combinations of textures and colors that you could use for different effects. In testing this pattern, I wanted to see how double-stranded worsted-weight yarn worked up and that led me down a whole different rabbit hole, and I came out on the other side with a Christmas Bramble version! Instructions for that version and its accessories are included in the Bramble Witch pattern. You could adapt this pattern to fit just about any occasion!
Grab yourself a copy of the Bramble Witch pattern and have a truly magical fall. Get out there and pick some pumpkins, peep some leaves, drink some cider, and get ready for Halloween!
