Ahem… Now that’s out of the way, please allow me to introduce you to the Party Cake Hat! It’s my birthday weekend and this year I am determined to have my cake and wear it, too!
I started working on this pattern last year, sometime around when everything started shutting down due to COVID-19 restrictions. I just wanted something fun and happy to work on, and this hat really seemed to hit the sweet spot for me (see what I did there?).
I decided to go the birthday route for this hat because, I don’t know about y’all, but I really like people to know when it’s my birthday. If there’s anything that can get that message across it’s the Party Cake Hat!
Having said that, this pattern is entirely customizable. You can start small by changing the “flavors” of the cake and icing by choosing different yarn colors. You can leave off the candles and use beads, sequins, or embroidery to make sprinkles. I have plans to make some “icing” holding my worsted weight yarn together with some white eyelash yarn to see if I can’t make myself a coconut cake. I wouldn’t be any kind of Appalachian American if I didn’t want to represent my love of coconut cake!
